On the Epipolar Geometry of the Crossed-Slits Projection

چکیده
The Crossed-Slits (X-Slits) camera is defined by two nonintersecting slits, which replace the pinhole in the common perspective camera. Each point in space is projected to the image plane by a ray which passes through the point and the two slits. The X-Slits projection model includes the pushbroom camera as a special case. In addition, it describes a certain class of panoramic images, which are generated from sequences obtained by translating pinhole cameras. In this paper we develop the epipolar geometry of the XSlits projection model. We show an object which is similar to the fundamental matrix; our matrix, however, describes a quadratic relation between corresponding image points (using the Veronese mapping). Similarly the equivalent of epipolar lines are conics in the image plane. Unlike the pinhole case, epipolar surfaces do not usually exist in the sense that matching epipolar lines lie on a single surface; we analyze the cases when epipolar surfaces exist, and characterize their properties. Finally, we demonstrate the matching of points in pairs of X-Slits panoramic images.

Analyzing the Spatio-Temporal Domain: from View Synthesis to Motion Segmentation
In this work I investigate spatio-temporal information in a video sequence. The advantage of considering a video sequence as a 3D spatio-temporal function with temporal continuity (rather than merely a discrete collection of 2D images) is demonstrated by two computer vision techniques which I have developed. View Synthesis: Each frame of the video sequence is an intersection of the spatio-tempo...

Weintroduceanewkindofmosaicing, where thepositionof the samplingstrip varies asa functionof the input camera location. The new images that are generated this way correspond to a new projection model defined by two slits, termed here the Crossed-Slits (X-Slits) projection. In this projection model, every 3D point is projected by a ray defined as the line that passes through that point and interse...

We present the intuitive interpretation of a ne epipolar geometry for the orthographic, scaled orthographic, and paraperspective projection models in terms of the factorization method for the generalized a ne projection (GAP) model proposed by Fujiki and Kurata (1997). Using the GAP model introduced by Mundy and Zisserman (1992), each a ne projection model can be resolved into the orthographic ...

In this paper, we first show that the affine epipolar geometry can be estimated by identifying the common 1D projection from a pair of tomographic parallel projection images and the 1D affine transform between the common 1D projections. To our knowledge, the link between the common 1D projections and the affine epipolar geometry has been unknown previously; and in contrast to the traditional me...

Normalized image generation (epipolar resampling) is an important task for automatic image matching. Normalized images facilitate the detection of feature correspondences in the images and therefore provide the advantages of reducing the search space as well as the matching ambiguities. Normalized image generation is a well-established procedure for images captured by frame cameras. Digital fra...
